Why is it so hard to see how all things are one?

I, just this morning, sat with two Jehova Witnesses and discussed spirituality.  In every case where the concepts being discussed led us to the conclusion that all is one there was an instant resistance to this concept.  Even when the argument that was being made had the conclusion that all is one, they still refused to see this and created their own interpretation to support the separateness that is the human condition.  What a wonderful life we have, where this experience is just that "this experience
