USA Today and United Press International
WASHINGTON, Sept. 11, 2011 -- In prayer, chant, silence and sermons on compassion, love, justice and mercy, believers of many faiths lifted their words to the one God they all proclaimed on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Very Rev. Samuel Lloyd III, dean of the Washington National Cathedral, called the interwoven prayers and chants a symphony to "the hidden oneness within the human race." He said, "God yearns to see us like this."

Christian, Muslim unity in Cairo

CAIRO, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Egyptian Christians held a mass of unity in Cairo's Tahrir Square Sunday to show solidarity with the country's thousands of anti-government protesters.

Muslim prayers also resounded in the square "in what seemed a show of interfaith harmony" five weeks after a suicide bomber killed at least 21 people at the end of a New Year's Eve mass in Alexandria, The New York Times reported.

"We are all one," people began chanting in Tahrir Square after the outdoor Coptic Christian mass was completed.
