Evolving to the Next Level

I recently returned from our Humanity’s Team annual Leadership meeting in New York.  Leaders from: Argentina, England, France Germany, Japan, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, The Netherlands and the United States were present.  Each year we come to a new level of honesty, transparency and connection and this year was no exception.  We co-created something very special.  We talked about the work we are doing globally “awakening the world to Oneness” and realized we’ve evolved into something more than this.  Philippe Pasqualini, the Country Coordinator for France, put his finger on it.  He said, “perhaps we’ve moved on, perhaps it is better to say we are, ‘living in the world as One’”.  We have not formally adopted this new description statement but there was broad agreement that this is what we are doing precisely.  We continue to awaken the world to Oneness but we are doing more than this.  At home, in our work, and where we go, we are living as One with each other and the world around us, not in a uniform way or a perfect way but in a way that feels authentic.

This is to say we often feel deep connection with each person, place and thing we encounter and we’ve adjusted our style of living to reflect this.  In Oneness there are opportunities to smile more, to share more and to be in service more.

When we were writing on a flipchart “do” was misspelled and written as “bo.”  Someone said, “bo” (pronounced boo) this is perfect!  This is combining “being” and “doing”.

Now we are getting to it.  This is how Andrew Harvey defines Sacred Activism and this is exactly what we do in Humanity’s Team.  In the Sacred, we see our Oneness with God/Divinity/each other.  Our invitation is to become in tune with that which is God-inspired and God-directed and in the process to put our Self in service to the Whole and the Holy—all of life around us.  This is where Activism comes in.  In Oneness, there are many things we can do.  We can be a better: husband/wife, father/mother, neighbor, friend, citizen and organization member.

When we live as One with the Sacred we take on a new identity – the world around us.  This is our new Self.  We are in connection with each person and the Earth around us so we very naturally place our Self in service to those requesting our assistance.  Within Humanity’s Team there is a long list of projects we undertake at a global, country and community level in Sacred Activism.  I will not attempt to name all of the projects because this would not be possible—we now number over 50,000 people in over 150 countries, but I will share a few.

We create Oneness Summits inviting people from around the world to come together and to talk about what Oneness is and how it works.  We did this in: 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009.  These focus on education but are highly experiential.  At a country level we are working together to create an Ubuntu Day in South Africa and an Oneness Day globally so we may honor and celebrate our Oneness in practical ways demonstrating our connection with each other.  We have partnered with State of the World Forum and the Integral Institute on a climate change initiative.  In Oneness, we are healing the Earth.  We have partnered with the United Nations International Day of Peace on a “Million Minutes for Peace” initiative.  In Oneness, we are creating peace on Earth.  We have partnered with a global organization called Renaissance2 that is planning and shaping the next renaissance on Earth.  In the next renaissance, we see many new forms of social expression that will be birthed from our sense of Sacred.  In Boulder, CO where I live, we offer assistance to the Carriage House for the homeless and the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for victims of domestic violence.  In Oneness, we’re becoming involved with many, many service organizations.  This is a small sampling.

In Oneness, there are so many things we can be and do –“bo.”  Will you join us?  If you have joined us already, perhaps you can identify service organizations in your community we can become involved with.  If you are not involved, come join us!  Let’s together become in service to the world around us!  It is the natural thing to “bo!”

All my love,

Steve
