Human Rights

Human Rights are a big topic of conversation these days. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the situation in China including the Tibetan region, and the military conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan are some of the more striking examples of Human Rights violations. It is incomprehensible how human life is treated in these countries.
When Pope Benedict was recently in the U.S., he talked about Human Rights and made some excellent points, but like other global leaders speaking out, key points were missed, points that could dramatically change life and living as we know it on this planet.
Here's what Pope Benedict said when he visited the United Nations: “A vision of life firmly anchored in the religious dimension can help achieve this [Human Rights], since recognition of the transcendent value of every man and woman favors conversion of heart, which then leads to a commitment to resist violence, terrorism, war and to promote justice and peace,".
These remarks do come right up on it. “Transcendent value” is precisely what we must talk about. What is important is that we talk about what we mean by this so people are clear and the meaning is not left to the imagination.
We in Humanity’s Team see God’s loving, healing, joyful presence inside all humanity and all of life. God is unconditional love, truth, joy, acceptance, gratitude, innocence and blessing and each person is a part of God so each person is sacred and divine and possesses all the qualities God possesses.
We see God’s face and our own face in each other. We can see why it was said 2000 years ago: “I tell you the truth, anything you did for any of my people here, you also did for me”
Imagine if the pope’s speech to the United Nations had expressed human life this way. Imagine if he had said: “Our loving God is present in each human being everywhere on our planet so we must accord each person the Human Rights that go with this entitlement. Each person must be treated as God’s sacred and loving essence with no exceptions.”
Now THIS would be an easy and significant contribution to creating real Human Rights. The first domino would fall and all the others would fall behind it. Our dreams and aspirations for life and living on this planet would manifest.
If this is exciting to you, stay close by Humanity’s Team. This is what we are up to and we shall complete our work in a generation, so our children inherit a different world, a world we will be pleased to leave to our children and our children’s children.
