Jesus' Unique Concept of God

Editor’s Note: This is part 4 from Discover the Power Within You, A Guide to the Unexplored Depths Within by Eric Butterworth. This book is for Christians and Non-Christians alike. It promotes the teachings Jesus brought to the world and says they are as relevant to us today as they were two thousand years ago.
Imagine going out into the day and hearing of a jealous, angry, vengeful God everywhere you went. This was the society Jesus grew up in says Eric Butterworth. Churches taught of a God of the skies “out there”, a God of vengeance and wrath, a God of the Old Testament.
Butterworth says that Jesus stood this theology on its head. Jesus said God was none of these things much to the displeasure of Pharisees and others who followed him around. God was peace, love and compassion, this was God’s nature and essence, and then the real eye opener -- God can be found in our interior, “a Presence dwelling in us, a force surrounding us, a Principle by which we live.”
What did Butterworth mean by “a Principle by which we live?” Butterworth is very explicit. He means that we are all part of one thing, we are each a wave that is part of the ocean, we are like a finger that is part of a hand, a cell that is part of a body. When we climb into our higher state of consciousness, when we open ourselves to connection with the Whole, when we receive God’s inspirations, we feel the “father within” and we feel each person, place and thing.
The Principle does not stop here, it goes further, “this means you can never be separated from God because you are an expression of God, the very self-livingness of God. God cannot forsake you any more than gravity can forsake you. As an expression of God, you are God expressing Himself as you.”
There is more. Butterworth says, “You are the presence of God at the point where you are. Thus, it is true of you as it was of Jesus. ‘I and the Father are one.’ You are an individualized part, but the whole is always in the part, thus God is within you.” He says, “perhaps we do not emphasize enough God as me…too often we are reaching out to and straining up to God ‘out there’. This is the unitive idea that Jesus taught. ‘I and the Father are one’ not two, but one --the Father in me on a higher dimension of living.”
Can you see the implications here? To say that God cannot forsake you any more than gravity can forsake you is positively enormous! This means when we live as Who We Really Are, when we see and respond to other people and other life as a part of our true Self, when we live in the full and complete consciousness of God -- in deep knowing and extreme faith – when we do these things, results will follow in a predictable way. This is how Principle and Prayer work!
Says Butterworth “Jesus’ prayers were unlike anything that had ever been heard before. He was so confident of the results of his prayers that His efforts seemed almost brazen. Standing before the tomb of his friend who had been dead for three days He prayed ‘Father, I thank thee that thou heardest me. And I know that though hearest me always.’ And then He spoke the word, ‘Lazarous, come forth’ with complete confidence John 11:41, 43. How could He be so sure? Why is the mathematician so sure of his computations? Why does He have so much confidence? Simply because He knows that it is a Principle. A Principle is a Principle and is not subject to error, in mathematics, or any other discipline.”
Do you have this concept of God? Have you ever tried this? Do you have this confidence? I have experienced many miracles in my life but I do not experience these results consistently. This is something I pay attention to each day and I believe I am becoming more competent. How about you? Have you experienced miracles in your life? Please send your experiences to, steve.farrell [at] humanitysteam [dot] org. I’d love to hear from you. .
Thanks very much!
All my love,
Steve
