Time

What is time anyway?
Relative time, or 'clock time' as Eckhart Tolle calls it, is man-made, rigid, unmanageable. Commitments and responsibilities take up most of it but you can, through skilful decision-making and focusing on your passions, build a decent life within the time available.
The irony is that spiritual practice, attempting to access the infinite, timeless part that is your highest self requires what? - time! Time to meditate when the kids are asleep, time to read, time to listen to teachings, write in your journal, go on retreat, if you can somehow get away; even blogging on humanitysteam.org needs time. I'm writing this in the small hours, winding down from playing my drums at a show and with the knowledge that Nicky, my 1 yr. old, could wake up any time soon.
The Buddha left his responsibilities behind to go seek enlightenment. How could I just bail out on my sweet Nicky and his older brother, the precocious Thom? No, I just have to keep working with relative time and trudge slowly down the spiritual path. Or maybe I'll click one day and have all my delusions fall away just like that. I'm slowly waking up. I know there's a Buddha or God inside me that is also part of the infinite, all-pervasive God, pure consciousness, beingness, whatever you like. I just need more time to uncover it. Or I could just drop all this spiritual nonsense and do more housework!
Time now for some sleep.
