The Truth about Romantic Relationships

My dear Friends,

As we move toward the global celebration of romantic love which is Valentine's Day, I am reminded of what Conversations with God has to say about all this. The purpose of romantic relationships, CwG says, is not what most people think that it is.

Many people imagine that romance is going to change their lives, end their isolation, heal their wounds, and fulfill their needs. Yet relationship between human beings—particularly intimate, personal, romantic relationship—was not designed to do any of those things. The purpose of romantic relationships is to give you an opportunity not to receive something, but to give something; not to acquire something, but to render another blessed in you.  The purpose of romantic relationships is to provide you with a golden chance to announce and declare, express and experience, become and fulfill Who You Really Are—and then to recreate yourself anew in the next grandest version of the greatest vision ever you held about that.

In other words, romantic relationship has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with your Beloved Other. And yet, because it has to do with your Beloved Other, it does have to do with you—because the very nature of romantic relationship wonderfully lived is the physicalization of the truth: You and I are one.

It is the beginning of the pathway to a larger truth: we are ALL one. There is no separation between us, only that which looks like separation. Members of Humanity's Team deeply believe in the Oneness Reality. (I was going to say, “…in the Oneness concept,” or “in the Oneness idea”…but we’ve got to stop talking about this as if it were an “idea” or merely a “thought” or “concept,” and discuss it as if it were a FACT. Which, of course, it is.)

What we need now to do on this planet is deeply explore how we can most beneficially “react to this fact.”  That is our challenge as we plunge further into the 21st Century. I often think of starting a program—React to the Fact—and developing a whole website around it….ReactToTheFact.com.  It would propose viable ways for human society to respond to the fact of our Oneness. In politics. In religion. In commerce, business, and industry. In education. In social interactions. In environmental considerations. In every area of human endeavor.

We could prepare a report. We could ask experts in every single area for their thoughts on how to apply the Oneness Reality, placing it on the ground everywhere in our world. We could then send our report to the United Nations, and to every government in the world. And to every religious leader as well.

This is one of the many things I dream of doing before I leave this planet. I want to lay out a blueprint for living the Oneness Reality, with the help of my friends all over the world.

Anyway, the approaching of Valentine’s Day got me thinking about all this. So on that special day, honor the one you adore. Make it the most special day that your Beloved Other has spent in a very long time. Begin experiencing and expressing the Oneness Reality in a larger way than you have ever done before. And then, continue the expression…every day of the year. Make 2009 the year that you bumped up a notch in your living of the Only Truth There Is.
