The Original What?

Below is one of the most awesome and astute blogs I've ever read and it's written by Ruth Luna, Humanity's Team Translations Coordinator.  I've told many people about this blog and the epiphany that follows after reading it.  At a local HT gathering the other night I told a woman about "The Original What" and she put her hand over her heart and said, "This means I could begin saying prayers again that I have so missed."  Please enjoy, and thank you, Ruth.  Nannette Kennedy, Newsletter Editor

For some reason, the thought "original sin" appeared in my mind a few days ago. Since I never think of sin, the mere thought of it was enough to get my attention.  Immediately after I became aware of the thought, a strong impulse of looking that word up in a dictionary followed.

I went to wikipedia (to look up "pecado", Spanish word for "sin") and I found a few definitions.

But here's what really got my attention: according to Wikipedia, the Aramaic word for "sin" had the connotation of... oblivion!

According to Webster's Dictionary, "oblivion" means the state of being completely forgotten. Could that be it?

And if it were so... the original sin would be "what we first forgot"...

What did we forget?

Did we forget that we are not separated from God?  Did we forget that the Divine is within? Did we forget that we are all One?

What if the symbolic meaning of baptism was washing away the illusion of separation so that we can experience Oneness?

This is not a treatise on Theology, and I am not claiming that the definition of sin that I am now using is accurate or even correct.  Beyond the academic truth of this, which may be debatable, I feel there is truth in that there is something we, the citizens of the world, have completely forgotten.

And maybe our existence is about awakening this very ancient memory: We are all One.

Wow...  I can't begin to tell you how liberating this feels for me.

"Father, forgive me for I have sinned" would become "Father forgive me for I have forgotten"...  This change of words connects me with what I feel is the spirit of Confession...

"Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death" would become "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us who have forgotten, now and at the hour of our death"...

It's beautiful!

"The Alchemist"
by Steve Farrell

A friend recently bought me a copy of "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho.  I've got many books on my bed-side table so while I really appreciated the gesture, I thought to myself  "gosh, when am I going to find the time to read this?"

I decided to scan the beginning of the book and immediately could see why it was brought to me.  "The Alchemist" describes each of us who are part of Humanity's Team.

It describes a boy who follows his "Personal Legend" or it could just as well be described as "Personal Destiny".  The boy walks through his fears to follow his heart's calling and even leaves, for a period of time, the woman he loves.  He endures theft of all his resources and attempts on his life to pursue his destiny.  He is guided to see "we are one" and that "the soul of the world...is part of the soul of God...and that the soul of God was his own soul...and that omens [prophetic signs] and performing miracles are part of the larger universal design".

The book says, "alchemy...brings spiritual perfection into contact with the material plane".  As this relates to our work in Humanity's Team, what I interpret this to mean is, we demonstrate the real value or perfection in what it means to be "human".  It is not to be limited creatively or in lifetime.  Most importantly, it is not to be limited in value.  Rather, it is to be creative beyond measure, eternal, a part of God...God given rise to in all its full meaning, particularly when we merge our heart with God's heart and embrace God's will and desire as our own.  We are human and divine both, but perhaps it is more useful to say we are, "the divine embodied" and we are valued beyond measure.

This is the message of Humanity's Team.  We connect people with Who They Really Are - a part of God, a face of God.  Perhaps within Humanity's Team we are all "alchemists".  We are guides, pointing to the sacred and divine in each person and the path back home to God even as we are walking back home ourselves -- to the deepest love, the most profound wisdom, to creativity beyond anything we can imagine -- to the lap and love of God.

ONE Fifth of the Way There
by Chip Cooper

Humanity's Team and Humanity recently passed a significant milestone on the way to Awakening the World to Oneness.  The 10,000th person signed the petition asking the United Nations to declare an annual Oneness Day, a day for humanity to celebrate, discuss and experience our commonality, while still acknowledging and respecting our beautiful cultural diversities...a day to unite in Oneness for the greater good of the Human Family.

Next year Humanity's Team, with assistance from other like-minded organizations, will have gathered the remainder of the 50,000 signatures and then we'll deliver it to the United Nations.

Here are a few recent comments from petition signers around the world:

Romanian Teammate:  I don't think it matters which religion one belongs to.  The religion must not be a difference that causes us to hate other people.  We are all brothers; we are God's children. I do not know who God is, but I don't recognize it in any religion. God is more than any religion that exists in this "old world."

Australian Teammate:  We are all one. Only love is real.  Everything else is an illusion.

English Teammate:  Look behind others' masks and see what lies behind. Then come from love...not fear, in the way you relate to others.

Argentine Teammate:  I simply wish that we could all understand we are all one and that we are part of the same God.

Colombian Teammate:  Hi.  I'm "only" 13 years old, but I really like this World Oneness Day petition. Thank you for making this possible.  It's a great opportunity to be more connected with "myself."

Swedish Teammate:  There is no such thing as a "genuinely evil person."  We are all brothers and sisters. Misunderstandings occur, but they can and must get solved with mutual respect and love.
