Lawmakers: Recognize humanity’s oneness

ALBANY, N.Y., June 3 (UPI) -- The United States and other nations must recognize humanity’s underlying oneness for the sake of world peace, the New York State Assembly said in a resolution.

The non-binding resolution, brought to the floor of the state’s lower house by Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, a Democrat from Kingston, passed unanimously May 24, Assembly records indicate.


NY Assembly affirms our oneness

ALBANY, N.Y., June 3 -- All people are inseparably linked by an inner oneness, the New York State Assembly affirmed in a resolution that also recognized the “noble” work of the global Humanity’s Team movement.

The non-binding resolution, K1391, brought to the Assembly floor by state Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston, passed unanimously May 24.

It is believed to be the first U.S. government resolution passed by a state legislative body affirming the oneness of humanity and the interconnectedness of all life.


U.N. envoy: No peace without oneness

UNITED NATIONS, May 25 (UPI) -- Peace efforts  "will go nowhere" until people recognize we are all one, a veteran U.N. envoy said on receiving a petition seeking a U.N.-approved Oneness Day.

"I believe that unless we have that sense of solidarity among the peoples of the world, all our efforts of peace and security will go nowhere," Anwarul K. Chowdhury, the leading emissary of the U.N. Culture of Peace initiative, said on receiving a petition signed by more than 50,000 people from 168 countries.

NEW YORK — In Indonesia, Muslim groups burn down a mosque belonging to the minority Ahmadiyya. In Singapore, the government refuses to recognize Jehovah's Witnesses. In Belgium, 68 religion-based hate crimes are reported in 2007 alone.

People living in a third of all countries are restricted from practicing religion freely, either because of government policies and laws or hostile acts by individuals or groups, according to a study released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center, "Global Restrictions on Religion."
